Vineyard News

Can you believe it's August already? Where has the time gone? We've had a busy season in the tasting room, getting to know new members, being a part of special moments and watching our prized vineyard evolve through the months.
So far, we are pleased with the progress of the vineyard this year. It's been a pretty warm summer and we are closely monitoring the irrigation at this time to make sure the berries stay small for an optimum skin to pulp ratio. As they mature, sugar accumulation will occur. At this time, our grapes are successfully making their way towards harvest and we see the beginning of veraison... We're doing our veraison happy dance now!
We started talking about veraison in our last newsletter and now that it's August, this is the critical turning point in the grapes’ journey. More next month.
   
 

Did You Know?

Did you know that if you rinse a wine glass with water in between tastings, you might dilute/thin out the wine, reduce the alcohol level and alter the flavors due to chlorine and other minerals found in tap water? Not good! It's a waste of money and more importantly, good wine! We suggest you use the containers we have at the bar, for you to dump your wine in. For the most part, if you drink or dump your wine glass and move on to the next wine, you shouldn't have to rinse the glass each time. Exceptions would be, if you're switching between red and white or from sweet to something dry. The preferred method is to rinse your glass with the next wine. Ask the person pouring for a splash so, you can "rinse" your glass. Just splash it and swirl it around then, dump it out. At Mitchella, we're happy to oblige!
